Coastal Navigation

This is a two-day over the same weekend course leading to certification in Coastal Navigation by US Sailing. Building on the foundation courses Navigation 1 and Navigation 2, it covers the chart work useful for coastal navigation, navigational strategies and applicable rules of road.

 

Coastal Navigation shows you how to estimate your position when you can’t get a fix or electronics cannot assist, handling set and drift, establishing a running fix, integrating GPS and other electronic aids, and proper record keeping and plotting conventions.

 

Coastal Navigation – US Sailing Certification is granted after successful test completion. Navigation 1 and Navigation 2 are foundation courses and pre-requisites required before taking the Coastal Navigation Class at ONE°15 Brooklyn Sail Club.

 

Pre-requisites: Navigation 1 and Navigation 2 at ONE°15 Brooklyn Sail Club

Course Materials Included: Coastal Navigation by US Sailing, course plotter tool, dividers, pencil, eraser and practice charts. Students need to bring NOAA Chart 12327 – obtained in Navigation 2.

Instructional time: Saturday and Sunday – 6.0 hours each day (this is a classroom based course). US Sailing – Coastal Navigation test is scheduled for Sunday afternoon.

Certifications: Upon successful test completion – US Sailing Coastal Navigation Certificate
